Political tensions are heating up in Southeast Asia – where three government ministers from the Maldives are suspended following comments towards Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, which included labelling him as a “terrorist.”
It stems from a social media post where the leader promoted resorts within India to his own citizens, drawing blowback from Maldivian officials. Last year, Indians made up the largest number of tourists visiting the Maldives.
As a response to the entire controversy – a major travel operator in India says it is suspending flights to the Maldives “indefinitely.”
